He sees no need for gun control as his State has ZERO mass shootings. Yup, I understand that, but IMHO I believe you have to start somewhere. You know, folks with good hearts showing the way. Here a state, there a state and so on and on.  |

Last week an employee at the company where I work got ticked off about something and lost it, threatening to "shoot up the whole place." He was promptly fired, the FBI was called, and he was held for 24 hours and questioned. Then he was released as there apparently was no crime committed, and the company offered to provide "mental health counseling services" for him (he is white, middle-aged). The company has now also hired armed security guards (temporarily) that sit inside the entrances of all the buildings and distribution centers. Most of the employees are worried he will just wait until the guards are let go in a few weeks, and come back and do the deed.
I would be interested in knowing what would have happened to him if he had been brown-skinned and/or a Muslim. My guess is he would be in prison on terrorism-related charges, but who knows. First time something like this has hit this close to home for me, personally.

That sounds unpleasant. Just goes to show, it's not just the shootings that cause damage to your society - the very fact that they are so prevalent brings with it a large wake of negative effects. And all this in the name of profit  The 2nd amendment & the people that trumpet it are merely the facilitators at this point. |

(Reuters) - A 14-year-old American boy shot and killed five family members at their home in Alabama, before throwing away the pistol and calling police, officials said on Tuesday, in the latest high-profile gun crime.
The shooting occurred on Monday night in the town of Elkmont, a spokesman for the Limestone County Sheriff's Office told media, including an ABC affiliate.
The sheriff's office said five people were shot, with three dying at the scene and two later in hospital. "The 14-year old caller was interviewed and confessed to shooting all five members of his family in the residence," it said on Twitter.
