abcnews.go.com/US/police-el-paso-issue-report-active-shooter/story?id=64753896At least 18 dead in a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, TX. Repeat: In Texas, an concealed-carry state where gun activists keep telling us that this sort of thing never happens because, "would you shoot up a place if you knew many people had guns too?" and that mass shooters shoot up "soft targets." Well, where were the "good guys with guns" this time? Huh?

Donald Trump made some really constructive and inspiring comments today. /s
For real though, I say this every time, but how many fucking times does this have to happen before anything is done? How many bullets have to be shot? How many lives do we have to lose? How many bodies to we have to bury? It should be painfully obvious (and it is to the left half of the country, and even some of the right) that this is a national crisis, but so many politicians aren’t willing to do anything. Donald Trump tweeted that he “condemns the act” and that he’s sending “thoughts and prayers” to the state of Texas.
a) you clearly don’t condemn the act if you still won’t do anything about gun control
b) thoughts and prayers do literally nothing, regardless of your religion. If people expect one prayer will fix the country and then they let it go, they’re fucking delusional

I was thinking about this today and was engaged in some back and forth with some people on facebook, when I thought about this:
As of Kavanaugh's confirmation last year, conservatives have a majority in the US Supreme Court, meaning that any law made in attempt to control access to guns, or to outlaw certain types of armament, is likely to fail on the grounds that it is unconstitutional. The 2nd amendment was never interpreted as carte blanche to have almost any weapon until the 1980s. So now, the Democrats can make whatever law they want, and nothing will change.
We've already decided, as a nation, that we care more about the right to commit treason by overthrowing the government than we do about the lives of our citizens.

Do you think the NRA will still be digging in their heels when you have 10 in one day?
Ray kept saying it & he's right - if Sandy Hook wasn't enough - then you have to feel like nothing ever will be.

In the Facebook conversation I mentioned earlier, the anti-gun-control folks all made the same tired talking points:
"Guns don't kill people; people kill people."
"People die from car accidents; are we going to ban cars?
"If people want to kill, they'll find a way."
They deflected by talking about other, unrelated-but-just-as-bad issues.
1. We do hold people responsible. They go to jail and never get out. We don't pretend that the gun did it by itself. But they ARE a problem.
2. People don't kill 58 people at a concert or 49 people at a nightclub or 20 people in a Walmart or 11 people in a church with a knife. When mass murdering happens with knives, then maybe we'll look at knife control.
3. The primary use for automobiles is for efficient transportation. They're dangerous and they're controlled. You need to take a driving class and a test before you can operate one. Guns exist for the sole purpose of injuring or killing living things - animals and people. They don't serve any other purpose. To compare the two is completely dishonest.
In this conversation, the deflection went towards drunk driving;
1. Drunk driving is not a partisan issue. Everyone thinks it's wrong. Gun control, by contrast, is partisan. One side continually accepts large donations from a lobbying group whose mission is to ensure the most possible gun sales.
2. Just because guns aren't the only problem in the country doesn't mean they aren't a problem.
This thinking is so frustrating. Guns are a problem. Let's fix the problem.
The amount of guns is not the only facet of this problem, either. No one thinks gun control is some panacea that will stop all gun violence. The problem is bigger, but we don't need to solve it in one giant step. Let's solve little pieces one at a time and then move onto the next piece.

Kevin McCarthy blames video games.

Of course he does... standard Republican response... blame anything except the permissive gun laws.
Studies show no correlation between video game usage and violent behavior.
Not to mention the little fact that all the other countries around the world that play the same games... don't get mass shootings.

Just seen that some old politician is blaming mass shootings on computer games. Playing games is a global thing, so why aren't there regular mass shootings in litteraly every other country? Shameless.

I agree with all that was said above me.
I am also tired of the lame "mental health" excuse when it comes to these shootings.. In other countries people who do this are called terrorists, here they are called nut jobs.

In fairness insufficient mental health care is a problem. But the issue is that conservatives make it out to be the only problem. If all guns were banned, this would rarely, if ever, happen. Like, tell me the last time someone injured/killed almost 40 people with a knife in under a minute.
Truth is, I saw this day coming. Not necessarily in the exact location, but I knew that with the way this country is going, someplace close to home that means a lot to me would get attacked. With the current mass shootings number this year for the USA, each state averages over 5 mass shootings. If you live in this country, chances are someplace that matters to you has been affected. It’s not just a problem- it’s a crisis.

Some people’s arguments on twitter make no sense. “If someone in the crowd was allowed to have a gun, they could’ve stopped it in even less time”
If guns were banned outright, there would be no shooter for a bystander to stop. That argument is obsolete.
