One would think that a man under all the scrutiny that trump has undergone, he would try to appease his opponents by doing some of the things they say he has not done....infrastructure, health care, etc. But because this president is all about himself, never going to happen.

That is exactly why his supporters like him. He is unapologetic and he tells them exactly what they want to hear. He built this us-vs.-them narrative and calls for unity mean, "come over to my side." He preys on people with the sentiment, "you're either with us or you're not." He's got Republicans openly advocating for big government and authoritarian rule. Why? It's the courts. Evangelicals are pushing the country towards a theocracy and Trump is packing the courts with religious conservatives. Evangelical politicians are pushing a theocratic agenda and stacking the courts is their strategy. Project Blitz is a coalition of Christian theocratic groups that seeks to "protect the free exercise of traditional Judeo-Christian religious values and beliefs in the public square." It is actively seeking to turn the USA into a religious state. |

This is what happens when Moscow Mitch McConnell and HIS Senate lackeys fail to convict this president:
1. Future Presidents can ignore Congressional subpoenas with impunity.
2. Future Presidents can order their underlings to ignore Congressional subpoenas with impunity.
3. Future Presidents can withhold ANY amount of Congressional funding until the recipient provides him/her with some kind of personal or political gain.
4. Future Presidents can intimidate and threaten witnesses that will testify in front of Congress OR any court.
5. Future Presidents can extort / bribe a foreign government to provide investigations against his/her political rivals for any reason whatsoever.
Make NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT, if the Senate fails to convict this president for his transgressions, each and every Senator has failed to honor their oaths of office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

I'm going to predict:
1) The senate impeachment "trial" won't even really happen. McTurtle whisks it through a super-fast blur of carefully-crafted sound-bytes for Fox News replays and Cult consumption, then orders a vote, which will be all Rethugs voting to acquit (and a few Dims, too, I wouldn't be surprised). It's over.
2) Trump and the Rethugs and right-wing hate radio/TV scream "vindication!" non-stop for the following couple of weeks, and the main-stream talking points will be that Dems really were on a witch-hunt, Trump is uber-innocent, and this is the ultimate mandate that he and the Right needs going forwards proving they and all they do is best for America, and the left and the Dems are un-American.
3) 2020 will be dominated by right-wing hate ads demonizing Democrats for their "fake" impeachment witch-hunt, and promoting Trump as the innocent victim of it, and all the other non-stop fake investigations - fake as proven by his complete acquittal of the impeachment charges in the Senate. Trump's personal attorney, Barr, will go all-out to politicize the Justice Dept and go full-bore in ramping up the investigations Trump has ordered into the investigations of his campaign, etc, to further prove how he has been steam-rolled constantly by the evil Democrats/Deep State. All of this will be to deligetimize any possible win by Democrats in the 2020 election.
4) Trump wins by a very large margin in November, 2020, both the popular vote and the electoral vote. Senate remains solidly Republican, the House barely holds onto its Democrat majority.
5) From that moment on, Trump and the Senate really ramp up the fascism. They have all the "mandate" they need to ram-through every right-wing fascist pipe-dream legislation they have dreamt of since Reagan. More tax breaks for wealthy/corporations. Possibly outlawing all immigration PERIOD (except white people from European countries on a case-by-case basis). Criminalizing people found to be here illegally to the point of them being labelled Enemy Combatants and automatically being shipped to a Guantanamo-type prison for life. Increasing the number/size of prisons/concentration camps to accomodate both illegal immigrants (which will be broadened to include just about any non-American citizen, even those seeking asylum), and certain "un-American" dissenters who will be reclassified as enemies of the State for speaking out against Trump/America, which are the same thing. Completely doing away with most types of regulations on Corporations, including environmental and labor-protection. Unions will be further eroded to the point of borderline criminal status. Laws will be passed/Executive Orders issued that will redefine media to be tightly-controlled by the government, and anything not approved is obviously "fake" and thus illegal and not permitted to be printed. Media outlets that do publish un-sanctioned stories will be fined and threatened with dissolution. All will be framed as MAGA, and all opposition labelled as un-American.
And probably a lot more that I can't even begin to imagine at this point.
6) Over time, more intelligent and savvy authoritarians will be elected post-Trump, who will further erode the rule of law and accelerate the slide into fascism (albeit calling it Democracy). Over time most citizens become acclimated to the incremental steps eroding the Constitution, just as they have become acclimated to Trump's daily outrages. Things that would have shocked most people years ago become simply another news cycle.
Let's see if I'm right or not. Stay tuned.

Most people don't realize that it took Hitler years to get to the top - Adolf Hitler's rise to power began in Germany in September 1919. Although Hitler lost the presidential election of 1932, he achieved his goals when he was appointed chancellor on 30 January 1933.
That is what is scary about this bastard. Will he willing step down after 4 (if defeated in an election) or 8 years (when he has to).
