Eric had nothing to do with shutting down the thread. He’s a global moderator, so he has the authority to lock any thread if he wants to.
That said, I don’t think it was okay for people like golferdude, spartan4knight, and Eric to say “come on, this is a golf forum, don’t talk politics” because we kept it to the off-topic board until it was shut down. And I say that, even considering Matt and Eric friends. It’s not like we went into the PGA thread and said “hey, fuck Trump!”
But I do agree that the admins had no choice, and that this forum is a better place for political stuff than the main TGCT forums. But I’ll leave it at that.

I had heard about this some time ago. Being from NYC, this is wild to me. It's an event that never gets talked about. From the interview transcript on the website, this part struck me the most: I cannot tell you how often I encounter the sentiment that kindness and respect are just ridiculous political correctness. I get so angry; we have an argument against being nice and considerate?

Stuff like that won't happen here is what I hear from the trumpettes.
OPEN YOUR EFFING EYES PEOPLE.
Does anyone think that Hitler would have succeeded if people had known and done something before he got power?
Scaramucci has been talking a lot lately and what he says about DT is just what those two stories are about.

Lol - the qualifier really isn’t needed - evidence shows that statistically the vast majority of them will be able to stand in their own two feet and become net contributors. More so than the indigenous population, lazy fuckers 🤣

Donald Trump has so much in common with Adolf Hitler. It’s scary. And when you bring up the facts, a diehard conservative will say “you’re just part of the radical left” or “you anti-American libtard” (and I use that word because it’s what THEY would use. I think we all know how much I hate that word.)
Donald Trump, as well as many if not most of his supporters, are delusional. Look it up in a dictionary. It’s just like a twitter exchange I had a while back with Jason Wert (aka Irving). He claims that he’s not homophobic, but says that being gay is a sin. Guess what buddy, whether you like it or not, the dislike or hate of homosexuality is defined as homophobia, regardless of what your bible says. I never said the bible didn’t say it was a sin, I said that the bible is homophobic. And he blocked me for it.
But I’m just preaching to the choir, because all of us here are mature and rational.

I'll just say that Jason and I do not get along, but I still find Eli to be an inspiration.
It's complicated.

I had no idea Jason was a homophobe or religious in any way. He is a funny guy, I still miss his The 19th Hole podcasts he used to do back in the day for TGCT. You learn something every day!

From the interview transcript on the website, this part struck me the most: I cannot tell you how often I encounter the sentiment that kindness and respect are just ridiculous political correctness. I get so angry; we have an argument against being nice and considerate? I know. There seems to be a new championing of traits like thuggishness, vulgarity, mean-spiritedness, spitefulness, hatefulness, and the like. (On the right, of course.) Since when are kindness, caring, goodness, compassion, and empathy considered BAD traits? Since when did so many people start looking DOWN on those who are good and kind, and UP to those who are not? How do these so-called Christians square their Christian teachings of Jesus with that?? They must do some absolutely crazy mind-contortions to be able to drown out that cognitive dissonance: Jesus was the Prince of Peace, he preached love thy neighbor, turn the other cheek, care for the poor and weak and "least of these," etc etc - but at the same time, all that compassion and kindness and respect and caring is nothing but weak-kneed bullshit for the liberal pussies, and what we really respect are Pontius Pilate and the Romans who spit on Jesus and stuck a spear in his side. I honestly believe that in order to be a right-winger you have to be out-of-the-park bat-shit loony-toons cray-cray with a side of pecans.

The Bible can be utilized to justify just about any position. It's why there are hundreds of different Christian churches.

China is winning....
He can’t pull the trigger.
President Trump delayed the new tariffs on a large batch of Chinese imports that were supposed to go into effect Sept. 1, and exempted some other Chinese imports altogether. The move deescalates Trump’s trade war with China, and amounts to a tacit acknowledgement by Trump that his tariffs might hurt American consumers too much.
Laptops, cellphones, gaming consoles, and other products imported from China won’t face a 10% tariff on Sept. 1, as expected. The Trump administration says the 10% tariffs on those products will go into effect on Dec. 15, instead. But the delay reveals an unwillingness by Trump to raise the cost of products many Americans find essential, suggesting he’s bluffing about ever imposing such a tariff.
Trump has now partially reversed himself on the 10% tariff, without any corresponding concession from China. In fact, China has toughened its stance recently, essentially calling Trump’s bluff.
