Agreed - I didn't see the 9 posts you mentioned, but they sounded like an easy tipping point. Still feel like if we were given a dedicated moderator, someone sensible like your bad self Mr L, we could easily mod a few political based threads over there without issue. But I get that total ban is easier for them. I'm still surprised how wound up people get by a thread they don't have to read... "many complaints"...  |

There was no way that Doyley could allow the politics to continue. As the site grows, the likelihood there is one jerk continues to increase, and there's no way they want to take that kind of risk.

Thanks for keeping this alive! Hope the “announcement” thread on the main forums stays alive at least long enough for the people really into debate sees it. If you need any help moderating or setting up the website, let me know, I have some past experience with ProBoards. It also might be a good idea to send messages on the main TGCT forums to some of the more active participants in the threads- not to bug them, but just to let them know. I don’t have access to ALL of the posts from last night, but in my next post I’ll quote all of the stuff I got a screenshot of. Also, despite what it may look like, I didn’t report either Royce or the guy from last night. I was in a sticky situation because on one hand, I knew the things they said were completely fucked up. On the other, I didn’t want to report the posts, because I knew the admin were sick of the threads and almost all of us really don’t want to bother them. It’s a shame that just a couple of trolls ruined it for all of us, but I also respect the decision made by Doyley and the others. One bad apple spoils the bunch. Thanks again paulus ! |

I reported several of the posts, basically knowing that politics would be shut down. I just couldn't let those messages remain on the boards; they may give the appearance that the comments were acceptable here.
And, if we have GRSM members of the community (and I can't imagine that we don't), that would be an incredibly hostile environment.

And that’s why I’m not mad about the decision, just slightly disappointed. You and (who I assume to be Reeb with Royce) made the right decisions, as did the TGCT admin.
Now that this forum is here, though, it’s truly self-policing because the Admin won’t be bothered by us.

I got screen grabs of two of them for Twitter & such, so this’ll give you a small taste of how ridiculous this guy is...
I completely missed how he misspelled “borders” lol... still, that’s tame compared to this next post.
Not only does half of this not make any sense to me as a Christian-turned-Agnostic, but it’s just gross to hear. I almost got sick just typing those words to share them.
Calling homosexual marriage “antichrist” is especially terrible, because my daughter is bisexual, and there’s no reason she shouldn’t be allowed to marry a certain sex/gender once she’s older. My breaking point with this post was calling transgender people “hybrid frankenstein monsters,” which is absolute hate speech. So glad TGCT banned him from the forums, even if it may have cost us the threads.
Anyways, time to watch the debate.

I'll dole out global moderator rights in a week or so to you and most of the regulars if they decide to come. Not interested in controlling things myself - but I am keen for an almost no moderation approach - silly ideas are easy to tear down with coherent argument. Think we should only resort to moderation tools in the most egregious examples or where the person just wants to spew & shows no interest in dialogue. Good idea on the PM's - will ping a few around in a couple of days - will give people a chance to find their own way here first before I start with the spamming  |

Seriously, everyone else should drop out at this point. The nomination will come down to these 5 candidates, and they represent a really good cross-section of Democrats.
"I wrote the damn bill!" was the line of the night.

Is Yang up tonight? I know next to nothing about him - but standing on a platform of universal basic income - which I honestly think is the only viable approach in the face of the automation revolution. Interested to hear how he & the idea comes across to the American people.
