Is Harris a good or best choice?

Kamala Harris was the frontrunner ever since the day Biden pandered to identity politics by saying he'd choose a woman for VP. I don't think this moves the needle in any way. Progressives don't like her very much. Wall St. loves her. She fits right in with the corporate Democratic platform.

Her record as California's Attorney General is disturbing. Her record as Senator is spotty. She co-sponsored Sanders' Medicare for All bill in the Senate, but backed off support of the bill during the primary. She had a completely embarrassing primary performance where her most notable moments featured her pushing Twitter to ban Donald Trump from its platform, and featured her on the receiving end of Tulsi Gabbard's criticism of her record as AG.

Harris' record includes the following:

- As California Attorney General, she declined to prosecute Steve Mnuchin, then the CEO of OneWest Bank, for forclosure violations, despite recommendations to press charges by her staff.

Mnuchin, now the National Treasury Secretary has donated to Harris' Senate campaign.

- As California Attorney General, Harris successfully prosecuted more than 1500 Californians for marijuana violations. But while in-studio on a radio broadcast, she laughed about legalizing the drug, even having admitted to smoking in the past.

- As the District Attorney of San Francisco, CA, Harris championed, a state law, as part of a tough-on-crime persona, that jailed parents of truant students. She thought it would have encouraged parents to make sure their kids went to school. The law did not have the effect, and some parents were jailed as a result.

Of all the serious candidates, Harris was probably the least-awful choice. Stephanie Abrams is devoid of any character and Susan Rice is a neoconservative warmonger. I do not believe that Biden gave serious consideration to Karen Bass or Elizabeth Warren.
