That's what happens when you get Donald. The ignorance in America (sorry) is mind boggling.

Very scary. Most Americans don't have a clue just how close we are to authoritarianism. All the signs are there - the demagogue who cleanses all the non-partisan government workers who actually do their jobs and tell the truth and report wrongdoing and are loyal to the Constitution and the Law, in favor of workers who pledge their loyalty to the Dear Leader. The rigging of elections in Dear Leader's favor. The stacking of the courts with toadies who do Dear Leader's bidding. The evisceration of the "Justice" Department so it serves as a defacto personal defender of Dear Leader. Trump is now so drunk with power after his "exoneration" by the toadies in the Senate last week, that he is already going about consolidating his power even more, and blatantly violating the law and flaunting his corruption in plain sight. And frankly, why shouldn't he? He knows he will NEVER be held to account, no matter what he does. The Senate and the Supreme Court will side with him on anything, he has rendered the House of Representatives pretty much toothless and impotent, and he has established the precedent that nobody - including any and all people, government employees or just citizens that are his friends - has to respond to subpoenas issued by the Congress. And Congress has zero power to enforce those subpoenas. And of course he knows he has a solid 40% of the electorate worshipping him like some kind of demi-God, no matter what he does or how he acts.
He is quite literally establishing the new norm that the Executive is above the law. Literally. Trump can do anything he wants - who is going to stop him? Imagine when - someday - Trump is dead and the next power-hungry authoritarian Republican demagogue sits in the oval office. He will use every one of these fascist precedents set by Trump to even more firmly assert the Executive as basically a King/Emperor. We are in some serious, serious shit here. And the scariest part of it is that a solid 40% of Americans are perfectly fine with it. It very much reminds me of 1930's Germany, when Hitler was rising to power. Most Germans were quite fine with what he did to their government - turning it from a Republic into a Dictatorship - and the few who weren't silently disappeared into prisons. To this day, most Germans are still befuddled by how easily and meekly their grandparents acquiesced to a dictator the way they did.
I think we are watching, in real time, the destruction of our Republic and rule of law and Constitution, and seeing the transformation of America into a fascist dictatorship. All the signs are there, for those with eyes to see. Someday I believe history books will marvel at how easily we citizens stood by and watched it happen, with a large chunk of the citizenry eagerly cheering it on as it occured.
SO glad I don't have children.....

Very scary. Most Americans don't have a clue just how close we are to authoritarianism. It's almost like those who don't read these types of articles and believe everything is hunky dory, actually think Hitler took over Germany in one day. He took years of manipulation and deceit and look how that turned out fro Germans. Or that Putin magically became president of Russia and is soon to be PM for life. WAKE UP MY FELLOW AMERICANS, WE ARE ON THE VERGE OF FALL WE MAY NOT RECOVER FROM FOR A LONG TIME.

John de Lancie described the little steps that one takes on the path towards shamelessness. His speech starts at 10m 35s. I think I've clipped the speech to that timestamp. Worth the 20 minutes to watch although the relevant comments wrap up in fewer than 10 minutes.

LMAO, so you are telling me socialism is a more advantageous formulation of government? Nations such as Sweden and China are trying to more away from socialism due to the system being convoluted and flawed. You all are adorable. Trump vs Sanders, Trump will win 52%-48%

No one is forcing you into joining a religious affiliation.

I absolutely agree with you, Trump will hammer Sanders in a General Election. Bernie is the dream opponent for Trump.
