The fact that this forum has not exploded with others from the TGC forum joining in on condemning the bullshit that occurred in D.C. yesterday.
In this case, SILENCE is not golden, it's pathetic.

I'm here lol
I have been expecting our resident supporter to show up when he has his load on.
I think some of the absence is due to the "no politics" attitudes of many forums that goes back years. I ran a forum for 10 years, it was allowed. There were some fights but over all not that bad. I admined a couple others where it was not allowed.
Thing with TGC, it's hard to engage anyone in conversation. It's easier to click like than to actually engage another human in conversation. Not always the case, there are some active threads and conversation going on. Also think a lot of people don't care for politics. Or to talk about it.
. This isn't a knock on TGCT whatso ever. I love the place, have donated a decent sum of money, love the people and the whole idea. But I think it's the nature of the beast. Bunch of middle aged men who are in our own little worlds and can't be bothered to post. I admit I'm guilty of all that too. Some days I don't feel like talking. Some days I do. Right now I am posting because I'm coming up on the 3 year anniversary of my niece being killed (and sweet fuck all was done to the guy responsible) and if I'm not on a forum posting I'm staring at the ceiling or wall letting my mind wander and think about it.

Very sorry to hear about your loss Tim. Good comment as well 👍
Meanwhile, as I've said a few times, would love to know what the two main covid deniers over there are saying now. I know some crazy shit went down yesterday, but let's not forgot that ongoing cluster fuck.
Just to keep track:
Most deaths EVER yesterday.
And going back to the absurd suggestion that was made over there that the death count is half what they're saying, that now puts America at 185k; somewhat more than the "bad flu year" totals of 75k and 55k for the two worst years that were discussed at length at the start of that debate.
And 370k for literally everyone else.
Not a leg to stand on for either the "it won't be/isn't as bad as they're saying" or "we don't need lockdowns" crowd.

Yes Cliff, sorry I haven't been posting on here today, have been absolutely slammed at work. I will discuss the events in DC yesterday later today when I get home and I get the kids in bed.
This is sickening to me as a registered republican. Thank goodness my scruples were right and I voted for Biden two months ago.

Thank goodness my scruples were right and I voted for Biden two months ago. From someone whose electoral vote had been decided long before Nov 3., thank you. Your votes in AZ mean a lot.

I don't have the energy to constantly discuss how the Trump administration gets worse and worse on a daily basis.
I've actually been more focused on the infighting within the Democratic party because the progressives can't stop eating each other. And that is mentally draining.
I have no words for Wednesday that haven't already been said. There's a lot to unpack, but it starts with all the misinformation. For that, our government and our media is to blame.

For me, as a Canadian, I have said many times that I have no real interest in American politics. However, Donald has been so corrupt for decades, when he was elected POTUS, I was both horrified and disgusted and felt that I should at least share some facts and opinions about Donald.
That said, I truly hope that his latest words and actions have shown what a despicable excuse for a human being he is.

I know my wife, as an American citizen and Canadian permanent resident was disgusted that Trump got into office and glad she had long ago left the country. After what happened on Wednesday I think she's seriously considering not only going through the process to get Canadian citizenship but then also renouncing her American citizenship. It's amazing how much these "patriots" could do in such a short time to bring so much shame to being American.
Now it's naive to think that there aren't people in Canada who think like this as well. I know there were pro-Trump rallies in a few Canadian cities on the 6th with participation numbering in the dozens. There's no doubt that there are more but fortunately there's no one of any consequence that is emboldening them to reveal themselves. In the end it leaves them looking like random whack jobs yelling at clouds instead of becoming any serious movement. Even if there was some unifying force to bring them all together I just can't picture it rising to any serious level because it's just so not the Canadian way.
Canadian patriotism is so much different than US patriotism. We don't feel it necessary to pledge allegiance to our flag. I've never seen someone dressed head to toe in the Canadian flag to do their grocery shopping. I've never heard a chant of Can-a-da, Can-a-da!! randomly break out anywhere, ever. That doesn't mean we're any less patriotic or love our country less than Americans do. It just means we don't feel the need to shout it from the rooftops for everyone to hear. I'm proud to be from here but I'm also very proud that our countries actions speak louder for us than our voices do. One time I was at a rest stop in Massachusetts and was stopped by an older man. I was wearing a t-shirt that just said Canada across the front so he asked if I was Canadian. He then told me the story of how he served in the military alongside some Canadians and that he owed them his life. He was so honoured to have been there with them and as a Canadian he just wanted to thank me for their service. I of course felt bad that he was thanking me for something others did, but that made me proud to be a Canadian.
Where I work it's mostly temp work and at this point the majority of the temps they bring in are college students who have come over from India to get an education. Some will stay in Canada, some will go back to India. A lot of them barely speak english and they mostly mingle amongst themselves. Whatever the cases the fact that they uprooted themselves and left their families because of the opportunities that Canada gives them makes me proud to be Canadian.
Knowing that anyone that lives here can walk into a hospital and not have to worry if they can afford it or not makes me proud to be Canadian.
The metric system isn't Canadian but as someone who likes and appreciates math the simple fact that we use it makes me proud to be Canadian.
The list could go on, but the point is that I don't need to outwardly show anyone how I feel about my country to be able to be proud. Just like how we don't need to actually do anything to apologize for it.
All that being said, I've driven across the US a few times going through 40 different states and I really can't recall a single incidence where I've had a bad encounter with anyone. For the most part I'd say you're good and decent people. I like your country, but at times like these and really most of the last four years I can't help but question how backwards you are and how much longer it's going to take for you to move beyond the mid-20th century and join the rest of the first world.
